100 years ago the steam and electric engines lost the battle for powering cars to let the new kid in town to move our wheels, internal combustion. But it seems that looking for new ideas, we are turning back to the old ideas. Steam cars will get a shot of ruling the engine world again.
The British Steam Car team want their cars not only to bring back the good ol' days, but they also want their car to run fast, as in 274 km/h fast. It will weigh about 3 tons and will be 7.66 m long. A two-stage steam turbine will move it by generating up to 364 bhp.
Through time steam cars have broken a few speed records of their own. In 1906 Fred Marriott reached 205.45 km/h and Bob Barber made it to 234.33 km/h in 1985.
It may seem easy, if you think that now we have far better technology, but you can never know for sure. The environmentalists can sleep tight on this one, because the car will generate only water and carbon dioxide as exhausts. Thank God for that, because I don't want to see any dudes dressed in green tied to
trees yelling save the whales.
