The 50th running of the Daytona 500 will get more than its share of publicity, but one notable celebration of the event will in part last to the end of August.
NASCAR and the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angles have jointly announced that in celebration of 60 years of NASCAR racing, they will unveil a retrospective on the history of the sport.
The Petersen Automotive Museum will open its doors to a new “NASCAR: 60 Years” exhibit on Feb. 15. It will feature a diverse collection of race cars spanning NASCAR’s history and including vehicle ranging from the 1940 Mercury driven by Sam Packard to the 2002 Chevrolet driven by Dale Earnhardt, Jr.
The museum will also host a Daytona 500 viewing party on Sunday, Feb. 17, complete with a block-party style Fan Fest, featuring NASCAR racing simulators, food & beverage stations, a jumbo television screen, music, the NASCAR Street Tour and interactive displays.
The free event will allow fans to enjoy sights and sounds of the NASCAR experience, providing the viewing opportunity to watch the 50th running of the Daytona 500 (FOX/noon, PST) o a 12-foot projector screen.
Also on display will be this year’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship trophy, as well as a series championship trophy from 2003. The vehicles and trophies will be on display until Aug. 31.
Man, I wish that I could make it to this event! :(
