The announcement gave General Motors Corp, the top honor for the second straight year.
The Malibu was chosen by this year's media jury from a field of 15 cars and 13 trucks. GM vehicles captured four of the final six candidate spots for the awards.
The Malibu dominated the voting, earning 190 points. The runners-up were the Cadillac CTS (165 points) and Honda Accord (95).
With hopes of infiltrating the dominance of the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry in the midsize sedan market, the redesigned Malibu debuted amid a $100 million ad campaign.
The Truck of the Year went to Mazda's CX-9. Its 201 points overwhelmed the Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid (140 points)

Interesting to see the Malibu staking its claim as North American car of the year. I just did a search on carmax.com and right now there are approximately 250 Chevrolet Malibu's available. Models from 2008 to 2003 are showing upon on our website.
