Toyota has finally accomplished a breakthrough in the large truck vehicle category — at least Motor Trend's editors think so.![]()
The monthly publication has selected the Toyota Tundra as its 2008 Truck of the Year. As such, the Japanese manufacturer receives the award formerly dominated the truck segment's Big Three — Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado and Dodge Ram.
"The question on everyone's mind was whether Toyota could use its manufacturing and marketing muscle to compete with the big boys on their home turf," said Angus MacKenzie," Motor Trend's editor-in-chief. "The answer can be found in one of the biggest and most capable vehicles in the segment and one that can compete with any American-made pickup truck, at any level."
The Tundra impressed the magazine's editors with its performance, load-carrying and towing capabilities as well as its various options — bed sizes, wheelbases and cab designs.
Motor Trend previously selected the Cadillac CTS as its 2008 Car of the Year.
