Nearly two months ago, I experienced the Monterey Auto Week for the first time, and I can't stop talking about it.
Lots of folks know about the Concours d'Elegance at Pebble Beach. It's the grand finale to nearly a week of activities — auctions to historic car races, other newer concours events like The Quail at Quail Lodge to myriad displays and exhibitions all over the Monterey Peninsula.
Now comes word that among all of the high-end car buyers and sellers, Monterey Auto Week also has its commendable charitable ways.
The eBay Motors-based American Concours Foundation (ACF) conducted two online auctions during the August event. The sales at the auctions raised $47,688 in charity donation, according to Phoenix-based ACF.![]()
During the Friday Concorso Italiano event, several online auction cars were available for public viewing and live bidding from laptop computers. A 1966 Sunbeam Tiger sold to a buyer from Germany, resulted in $2,331 donated by ACF to Children's Hospital of Seattle.
During Pebble Beach RetroAuto, an all-things-automobile exhibition offered in recent years by long running Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, additional online auction cars were on display for public viewing.
A 1931 Packard and a 1934 Packard 12, a 1953 Buick Skylark and a 1953 Allard K3 were respectively purchased by buyers in California, Arizona and Massachusetts. ACF donated proceeds from these sales totaling $45,357.00 to Pebble Beach Company Foundation.
Several live collector car auctions were held during the Monterey Auto Week by renowned companies such as RM Auctions, Russo and Steele, Kruse International, Christie's, Bonham's and Gooding & Company, host of the Pebble Beach auction. The ACF auctions on eBay Motors offered those who did not travel to California from other states or countries a way to participate in the car week and support charity at the same time.
Founded in 2005, the American Concours Foundation is a not-for-profit organization created for the purpose of supporting charitable classic car-focused events through the sale of automobiles, motorcycles and Automobilia. It has raised more than $300,000 in its three-year tenure.
Here's a list of the vehicles sold and their prices during online charity auctions held during Monterey Auto Week:
1931 Packard, $185,000; 1934 Packard 12, $312,806; 1953 Allard K3, $90,794; 1953 Buick Skylark, $212,212; 1966 Sunbeam Tiger, $41,181.
