Toyota Unveils 2009 Corolla In Las Vegas Trade Show

The 10th generation of the Toyota Corolla, one of the most enduring cars in history, was unveiled Oct. 31 in Las Vegas.

Toyota Motor Corp. debuted the new subcompact sedan 40 years after its orginal debut. The car was introduced in Japan in 1966 and then in the United States two years later. More than 30 million Corolllas have been sold worldwide.2009toyotacorolla.jpg

The new model, shown at the Specialty Equipment Market Association trade show, is sportier, with a larger interior, new chassis and a more economical and powerful 1.8-liter engine.

The decked-out XRS model comes with front and rear spoilers and a 2.4-liter engine capable of producing 158 horsepower.

The smaller engine gets city/highway mileage of 25/35 miles per gallon while the larger one gets 22/30 mpg, Toyota said.

The new Corolla is expected to reach dealerships in February, with pricing between the entry-level Yaris subcompact and the Camry midsized sedan.

Additionally XM Radio will be a standard feature on all model year 2009 Corolla and Matrix that come with the JBL premium audio system.

XM NavTraffic, XM's real- time satellite information service for GPS navigation, will also be available as an option on all 2009 Corolla and Matrix vehicles equipped with a navigation system.
