
It's hardly a surprise announcement, but it's always interesting.
In its 2006 list of the world's largest companies via revenue, three automobile manufacturers are on Fortune.com's top-10 list, sharing honors with a discount warehouse retailer and petroleum companies.![]()
Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., emerged from its second-place position in 2005 to the top place in 2006 with an 11 percent increased in revenue to $351.4 billion.
Exxon Mobile Corp. was second on the 2006 list with revenue of $347.25 billion followed by the British-Dutch oil titan Royal Dutch Shell PLC with revenue of $318.85 billion.
General Motors was the leading automaker on the list, placing fifth with $207.35 billion in 2006 revenue.
Toyota Motor Corporation, the only Asian company among the top 10, was ranked sixth, two places above its 2005 position.
DaimlerChrysler placed ninth on the list with $190.19 billion in 2006 revenues.
Nearly 20 other automobile-industry related companies are among the top-500 list.
