Audi to Peugeot, 10 Great Cars Not For Sale In The U.S.

Several hundred new vehicle models are manufactured each year for distribution in the United States. But there are also a lot of fine vehicles not available in the U.S.

Forbes.com recently announced its list of the top-10 cars not available for purchase in the U.S. This list is posted on www.automill.com with permission of freelance writer Jason Moore.

• Alfa Romeo Spider V6 — This vehicle features a Alfa Romeo catalytic converter. It was introduced in the 1967 movie The Graduate and stayed in the U.S. market until 1995 when it cost $46,377. It was removed from the domestic market by Fiat because of poor quality and the manufacturer's financial problems.

• Aston Martin Vanquish S — When last offered in the U.S. in 2006, it cost about $360,000. The Vanquish S is Aston Martin's fastest-ever, street-legal car with a hand-build 6.0 liter V12 engine that produces 520 hp.

• Audi S3s — It's priced at $39,700 and is the high-performance version of the A3 which is available in the U.S. The S3 has a 265 hp, turbocharged, four-cylinder engine.

• BMW 1 Series — It was introduced as a four-door hatchback 1 Series in the fall of 2004, but unfortunately not for U.S. market. Its pricetag: $30,000.

• Citroen C6 — Priced around $54,000 it's a flagship sedan and has 3.0 liter, 215 hp V6 gasoline engine or a choice of two diesels.

• Fiat 500 — Priced at $14,000 launched as the latest generation of the 500 minicar last July 4 in Europe engine choices range from 69 hp to 100 hp.

• Smart Fortwo —  It's priced under $12,000. Mercedes launched Smart in Europe in the year 1998 and will be made available in the U.S. in early 2008.

Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution The high-performance Evo was last offered in the U.S. late in 2006 as an early 2007 model and cost about $35,000, but it's no longer available. Mitsubishi says it will revive it in early 2008. Features include: all-wheel-drive and lightweight, turbocharged, four-cylinder engine, with an aluminum cylinder block.

• Nissan Skyline — With a price at around $25,000 it's not available in the U.S.

• Peugeot 4007 — This model left the U.S. market in 1991 and, according the manufacturer's web site, will not return.
