The first car I owned was a 1962 Volkswagen Beetle. I bought it from the original owners — family friends — for $500. I was age 16, and when I drove the 40-horsepower machine around town and shifted through the gears, everything was grand.
During my early years of driving, I also had a 1962 Ford Falcon station wagon with "three on the tree," and a 1966 Karmann Ghia convertible.
My father wasn't enamored by cars, but he had a few neat rides — his 1962 Corvair Spider convertible comes to mind. Some of boyhood friends droved old Triumphs, Austin Healys and Corvettes.
Everyone has a car story. There's family car that's stayed around for generations. Perhaps you've restored a car or driven a special across the countr. Maybe you inherited a car you didn't really want, but have grown to appreciate.
We'll, here's my pitch: Send me a short tale (and an image, if available) of a unique car you've owned. I'll feature some reponses as blogs on automill.com.

I'll always have fond memories of the Geo Metro I drove in high school. The tires were only slightly thicker than Oreo cookies, the horn sounded like something from a video game, and the steering wheel would start to shake when I would drive the speed limit on the freeway. But they did give me the best parking spot in the lot - half a spot, really - since mine was the only car that fit. Good times.
